Pam, representing Growth Dimensions, told the board on Jan. 23 that Stellantis has confirmed a project at the Belvidere facility to produce a midsize truck and will pursue a multi-energy strategy that could include battery-electric, plug-in hybrid and internal-combustion powertrains. Growth Dimensions said retooling is expected to begin this year and the new product launch is targeted for 2027.
Pam reported 87 active projects in the region, highlighted a cold-storage project (Midwest Refrigeration Services), and listed forthcoming commercial investments including a Starbucks and a Chipotle committing to a combined employment impact and square-footage increase. She also described ongoing work assisting businesses with state and federal grants and incentives, noting two programs being promoted to local businesses: a grocery store grant and a small business capital infrastructure grant with application deadlines in the spring.
Why it matters: Growth Dimensions frames regional business attraction and support, including job commitments and multi-million-dollar investments. Pam said the Chipotle project anticipates roughly 60 full-time jobs and about $5 million in private investment for that location. Growth Dimensions will field questions from businesses about eligibility and application steps for state grants, including SAM.gov registration requirements for applicants.
The board asked whether federal or state policy changes (referenced in questions about electric vehicle mandates) might affect Stellantis; Growth Dimensions replied that there is uncertainty across the auto industry but that Stellantis leadership has expressed support for the Belvidere project.
