Board approves student-progression plan; first- and second-grade grading to remain A–F this year

Miss Hawk (presenting) explained a narrow outstanding point about first- and second-grade report-card formats: whether the district should keep A–F grades for those early grades or switch to the S/N (satisfactory/needs improvement) format. The board voted to retain A–F grades for first and second grade for the current school year and directed staff to add a statement to the progression plan indicating the district will adopt the S/N format for those grades in the following school year.
The public hearing on the plan drew no speakers. Miss Thompson moved to approve the student-progression plan; Miss Knight seconded the motion and it passed 5-0. Presenters said the plan and the grading approach will be distributed to principals and posted as the district prepares for literacy- and instruction-related activities in coming weeks.
