Whitehouse EDC asks to study event center, park‑adjacent development and TxDOT road changes

A board member suggested "let's put on the agenda a brainstorming session for creation of a White House event center," noting it could prompt interest and attract visitors. Members asked staff to investigate available properties and whether the EDC should proactively solicit proposals or developers.
The EDC also discussed a recently purchased parcel intended for a new park and whether any portion of that property or adjacent parcels could be used for commercial development such as a suburban professional building. Susan, an EDC staff member, said she would review the purchase motion to determine whether the city officially declared the parcel as parkland and whether deed restrictions would preclude other uses. Board members mentioned a separate parcel owned by a company identified in the meeting as Phoenix Commodity Zones as a potential adjacent site.
Several board members raised the upcoming TxDOT work on FM 346 and Paluxy (Paluxy) and asked staff to schedule a strategic conversation about how lane widening and interchange changes might affect site availability and development opportunities. One board member said he had not previously known the scope of the FM 346 expansion and urged the EDC to track timelines and right‑of‑way purchases so the corporation does not miss opportunities.
Members also discussed restarting subcommittees to conduct business retention interviews and a retention survey; staff said she planned to reconvene committees and resume those efforts soon.
No formal actions or votes were taken on these items; the board adjourned after asking staff to place the topics on a future agenda.
