Plan commission reviews long-range County Highway Q corridor study, emphasizes visioning not immediate construction

The Waunakee Plan Commission reviewed a final draft of the County Highway Q (South Century Avenue) corridor study on a recommendation to the Village Board, with consultant Steve Tremlett of MSA Professional Services presenting the plan and answering questions.

The study lays out a 10–20 year vision to improve pedestrian safety, connectivity and the corridor’s aesthetic character. "This vision is the first step," Tremlett said, adding that the plan identifies both low‑cost short‑term items — such as high‑visibility crosswalks — and larger median and lighting changes that would be implemented over many years.

Commissioners said they appreciated the outreach MSA carried out — including an open house in December — but raised concerns about cost, timing and whether the study could in any way hold up or force changes to near‑term private development.
