Kent reports 1.5 million park visits, $4M in park grants and multiple improvement projects

The presentation said the 33 most visited parks recorded more than 1,500,000 visits in 2024 and that additional public areas drew roughly 1,000 more visitors. City recreation programs ran full schedules with thousands of participants across youth, adult and senior programs. Officials pointed to a relaunched Green Kent volunteer conservation series and a sold‑out adaptive recreation program. The city also reported a new Schools Out Park at Kent Laboratory Academy created through a partnership with the Kent School District.
On the investment side, officials said they secured about $4,000,000 in regional grants to upgrade park facilities and play equipment. Construction began at Springwood Park and at Kent Commons; the city completed a basketball court improvement at Glen Nelson Park and made renovations at North Meridian, Morrill Meadows and Van Dorns Park.
Why it matters: Park projects and programs affect recreation access for families, seniors and youth. Grant funding reduces the need for local general‑fund spending on capital improvements.
The presentation said the city continues to solicit resident feedback on park improvements and expects further work in 2025.
