Grant County IT director reports CAD rollout and server virtualization work

Adam Baca, Grant County IT director, updated the commission Jan. 7 on departmental priorities including server virtualization, redundant firewalls, disaster-recovery planning and the rollout of a new computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.
Baca said the department is consolidating older physical servers into a virtualized environment to economize hardware and improve manageability. He said redundant firewalls were installed in the administration building and will be extended to the detention center to harden county infrastructure.
On CAD, Baca reported the county had potential that the system "went live" earlier that day; he described the implementation as a major milestone for the sheriff’s office and public-safety partners. He said IT would continue work to provision appropriate access and integrate dispatch partners.
Baca also described forthcoming projects including a backup power management system to provide graceful shutdowns and better management of equipment during outages, and continued focus on cybersecurity coordination at the state level.
Ending: Baca said he would support the county’s financial systems rebuild and would participate in upcoming legislative events as affiliate secretary for the IT affiliate.
