The Naperville CUSD 203 Board of Education voted unanimously on Jan. 7 to approve a resolution supporting Vision 2030, a statewide education policy framework developed from consultations with more than 1,000 stakeholders.
Board member Kristen Fitzgerald, who represented DuPage County in the Vision 2030 process, described the statewide effort as a chance to set long-range goals beyond day-to-day operations. "I feel very lucky to be in a state where we're taking the time to look forward," Fitzgerald said.
Superintendent Dan Bridges and board representatives had previously participated in Vision 2030 work with the Illinois Association of School Boards; Bridges told the board the resolution aligns closely with the district's own Focus 203 strategic blueprint and that the Vision 2030 recommendations may look different in different communities because of local resources and district sizes.
Board discussion noted the resolution is an endorsement of statewide priorities rather than a directive for immediate local policy change; Bridges said the district will examine recommended elements and bring related items to the board for consideration at future meetings. The motion to support Vision 2030 passed on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Board members said they saw value in coordination among statewide associations to build advocacy and to help educate legislators about needed supports for districts across Illinois.
