WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — The Wheat Ridge City Council on Jan. 6 reviewed proposed changes to the Community Partners Grant Program and gave consensus to a staff-recommended two-part review process, a timeline shift to align awards with the city budget cycle and new disclosure requirements; council also reached consensus to make organizations that already receive city general-fund line-item support ineligible to apply for CPGP funds.
City staff presented the proposals after describing a marked increase in demand for the grant program since 2021 and a heavier review workload for the volunteer committee. Cole, a city staff member who led the presentation, said the program has evolved since its 2008 inception as the Outside Agency Contribution Program and that staff is proposing adjustments to ensure awards align with council priorities while making the review process more efficient.
The two-part review would separate smaller requests from larger ones. As presented, staff described a smaller-request threshold as “up to $75100” (a figure staff said could be adjusted; the presentation noted $10,000 as a possible upper limit) and proposed that smaller requests be reviewed from applications without requiring an in-person presentation unless the committee requests one.
