JFAC corrects statutory citation for Idaho Commission for Libraries language

The Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee on March 24 approved a technical correction to language previously adopted for the Idaho Commission for Libraries so it points to the correct statutory section implementing the children’s school and library protection act.

Brooke Dupree, a budget and policy analyst with the Legislative Services Office, told the committee that “in our drafting process, the letter b was dropped and so this is just ensuring that it's pointing to the correct section of code as intended, the children's school and library protection act.” The change was presented as a drafting correction rather than a policy change.

Committee members first sought unanimous consent to accept the corrected language; Senator Wintrow objected and the committee then voted on the motion. The motion carried by a combined roll call across the Senate and House members of JFAC, and the correction will carry a due-pass recommendation.

The vote record provided by the committee clerk shows a combined total of 18 ayes and 2 nays across both chambers on the motion to adopt the corrected language. No change to funding or program intent was requested during the discussion.

The committee moved on to other agenda items after approving the drafting correction. No additional materials or follow-up directions were recorded for the Commission for Libraries during this session.
