Board receives initial collective-bargaining proposal from sheriff’s deputies

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors acknowledged receipt of an initial collective-bargaining proposal from representatives of the Jackson County deputy sheriff’s bargaining unit on Oct. 21.
Sam Christensen, a labor specialist with the Fraternal Order of Police Labor Service Division, presented the proposal and said he was working with the deputy sheriff bargaining unit and would coordinate with county staff. The board chair said the county has received the initial proposal and will prepare a response in the next couple of weeks.
Supervisors also scheduled a closed strategy session on collective bargaining later that morning; staff clarified that the bargaining strategy session is an internal meeting and not open to the public.
Action taken at the meeting was acknowledgment and receipt of the initial proposal; no formal bargaining agreement or vote was taken at this session.
