Airport Young Eagles flights, library computer upgrades, project updates reported to commissioners

County staff provided a series of routine updates at the Oct. 21 Suwannee County commission meeting.
Airport Manager Dehame reported the EAA-hosted event at the county airport flew 83 Young Eagles (ages 8—17) and drew an estimated 500 attendees; organizers served 145 breakfasts, hosted about 30 visiting aircraft and 15 vendors, and conducted roughly 130 operations during the event. Dehame said there were no injuries and that staff and volunteers will refine communications and planning for future events.
Library Director Betty reported that the county library's public computers, some of which were 11—12 years old, were recently updated under state funding and that patrons should return; staff had replaced aging hardware and improved the computers' responsiveness.
Interim County Administrator Jason Furry provided brief project updates: courthouse window replacement is in production with installation expected early next year; the John Veil Park facility has been demolished and will be replaced by a multipurpose community building; the Douglas Center gym HVAC project is out to bid (close date Nov. 10); the county continues work on the wastewater treatment plant and is negotiating construction prices; staff are recruiting for a veteran service officer and expect to begin interviews; and the county is reviewing GIS and IT infrastructure needs and will present further plans to the board.
No formal board action was required on the updates; commissioners thanked staff for the event work and facility planning.
