Staff reports five appeals received for next year; new program cited for postponements

Staff told the Madera County Assessment Appeal Board on Oct. 2 that, as of the meeting, five appeals had been submitted for the coming year and that a new program roll-out prompted postponement of some hearings.
"The only update I have is to date, we have received 5 appeals for next year," Sarah, a county staff member, said during the staff reports section. She added many hearings were postponed while staff implemented the new program and that it is unclear whether those matters will be resolved or will accumulate for future hearing dates.
Staff noted that in neighboring Fresno, members verbally announce who voted which way, and offered to do the same for the board "so they know who's voting which way." The board agreed that staff would continue refining the new program and practice and that more details would be available by the Dec. 4 meeting.
No formal action was taken on the staff report; the update was informational.
