Union County explains stormwater complaint process and says new rules require detention for most developments

“We get that question all the time. If you're having a problem on your property, drainage problem, we can work with you to help help you come up with some sort of solution on your own property. Or we can if you're having a problem that's being generated by a neighboring property owner or something that they've done, an individual property owner or a developer, we can work with that property owner or developer if they're creating, if they've generated a violation, we can work to get that violation corrected. What you'll need to do is you'll need to go to our website and fill out a complaint form, and we can get that process started. We work with developers,” the staff member said.
The staff member said the county’s stormwater department evaluates developments to ensure compliance with stormwater rules. “Our stormwater department works to evaluate that, that development to make sure that it's in compliance with the stormwater rules. Last year we did upgrade our stormwater rules. It now requires detention for just about any development in the county. And if you have any other questions or if you have any questions in general, about our stormwater program or any particular developments, you can call our you can call our office. We're available anytime to answer all of your questions,” the staff member added.
The staff member described two pathways: (1) staff can advise property owners on solutions for drainage problems on their own property, and (2) the county can engage with a neighboring property owner or developer if a development has generated a violation. The county did not provide a web address, ordinance citation, or a copy of the revised stormwater rules during the remarks.
Residents seeking help with drainage or developers with questions about compliance were told to file a complaint form through the county website or call the county stormwater office for more information.
