Davidson County Election Commission certifies Oct. 7 special primary results

The Davidson County Election Commission voted unanimously to certify the results of the Oct. 7 U.S. House District 7 special primary elections for both the Republican and Democratic contests.
Jeff Roberts, Davidson County administrator of elections, told commissioners the office received 39 provisional ballots from the Oct. 7 special primary and that 15 of those provisionals were accepted after verification. Roberts said 24 provisional ballots were rejected; roughly half of the rejected provisionals reflected voters who were not registered, a total of 12 ballots.
Roberts briefed commissioners on the documents in their meeting packet, which included a summary and two copies of certification forms. After the staff briefing the commission took separate motions to certify the Republican and Democratic temporary primary results; both motions passed by voice vote without recorded opposition.
Commissioners asked no follow-up questions during the certification votes. The commission’s presiding officer moved the items and the motions were seconded; commissioners indicated approval by saying “aye.” The clerk recorded the motions as approved and the certifications were entered into the meeting record.
The commission also noted that Commissioner Janine Davis was absent in person after testing positive for COVID-19 but was listening to the meeting online.
The commission did not change the certified totals during the meeting and did not identify any outstanding ballots or unresolved challenges related to the Oct. 7 primary certifications.
