Miss Becky, an EE teacher at South Weaver Elementary, told the Davis County School District board that students visited Risen Warrior Ranch and were given a tour that accommodated children with disabilities.
The visit brought students into contact with ranch animals and riding opportunities, offering a hands-on experience school officials said they do not typically provide during regular school days. "They are giving our kiddos a tour of their awesome ranch," Miss Becky said. "Our kiddos have some disabilities and they've been super great in accommodating their riding the horses. We got to see chickens and pet the horses, so it's been a super fun experience for the kids."
The teacher said Risen Warrior Ranch is dedicated to helping veterans and police officer families and that the ranch customizes field trips for schools. "We offer a lot of different customized field trips. We have a lot of schools and so we tried to cater to that. It's just been a great opportunity to service the schools and the veteran families," she said.
District materials and the public comment did not specify the number of students on the trip, the specific types of disabilities among participating students, or the date of the visit. The comment was presented during the meeting's public-comment portion and did not indicate any formal board action, funding request, or policy change related to the trip.
School officials and ranch staff were not separately identified in the transcript; details about future visits or formal partnerships were not discussed during the comment.
