New lights, patch work and conduct concerns as Mifflin County fields host playoffs

Staff said the plant producing asphalt may close around Nov. 1, which motivated a prompt repair schedule.
The board also discussed crowd size and student behavior at recent games. Board members said attendance at early home contests reached several thousand in aggregate and that the district is addressing concerns raised by parents about trash and sportsmanship among middle‑ and junior‑high attendees. Because some disciplinary matters involve students, the board noted details cannot be discussed in public because of FERPA and related privacy rules; the board said those specific incidents are being handled in executive session or via established discipline procedures.
On formal business related to athletics, the board approved creation of a school‑sanctioned junior high baseball club at no cost to the district effective Jan. 1, 2026; board members said the club will act as a feeder program for JV and varsity levels. The district also completed routine approvals to allow the high school marching band to travel to the Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Championship on Nov. 2 in Hershey, Pa., and staff described how the new complex infrastructure allows simultaneous events across fields.
Administrators said they will continue to seek parent and community feedback and make incremental operational adjustments to security, trash management and crowd control as the district and community adapt to larger crowds and multiple fields in active use.
