CVCC chair seeks closer ties with Appomattox County for workforce and training programs

Dr. Justin Hensley, chair of the Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) local advisory board, spoke to the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors to reintroduce CVCC’s role in local workforce training and to strengthen ties between the college and county leaders.

“CVCC is your community college, serving students from Appomattox County through workforce training, academic programs, and dual enrollment,” Hensley said. He thanked the county for providing space in the Carbon Price Building that allowed welding and EMS programs to proceed after a partner organization withdrew, and he cited funding from the Tobacco Commission and GO Virginia for those programs.

Hensley described CVCC services that include short‑term credentials, transfer pathways and customized employer training. He said community colleges help keep talent local by training students who then can work for area employers. “When CVCC wins, Appomattox County wins too,” Hensley said.

Board members recognized CVCC leadership in the audience and thanked Hensley. No formal action was requested or taken; Hensley said he intends to make the college more visible to county leaders and to maintain regular communication.
