Solder Ditch work completed; county reports pipe replacement and river outfall correction
Summary

Morton County drainage staff reported Sept. 2 that work on Solder Ditch is complete and that both roads affected by the project have been reopened.
Staff said the modified channel is substantially wider than before — improving access and helping to move water more quickly — and that crews replaced a busted pipe on an adjacent drive, re-asphalted the surface, and installed riprap and stabilization. Photographs of the completed work were presented to the board; staff said the channel is “probably three times wider” than before and that the opening is “probably double” its former size.
Staff also reported that a final survey related to a levee/outfall near Highway 39 showed the outfall elevation on the river side was not correct; crews must dig back down and reconstruct the fall to achieve the intended slope. The transcript records staff saying the contractor had to correct the outfall elevation and that digging was underway.
During the Solder Ditch discussion staff and board members commented that state review standards have changed between submittals, creating additional resubmittals and frustration for county staff.
