Barren County opens first permanent coroner office; coroner reports monthly case counts

GLASGOW, Ky. — The Barren County Fiscal Court held a ribbon cutting at the new coroner's office during the Sept. 16 meeting; the coroner told the court it is the first permanent office for the county coroner in the county's history and presented recent case totals.
County Coroner Gibbs said the new office provides a long-term home for the coroner's operations. "This is a historic day for the coroner's office — the first all of you guys are the first that's ever provided an office for the Barren County coroner," Gibbs told the court. He added the new space will serve future coroners "for another 50 years." The court scheduled a 10:30 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony at the coroner's office with refreshments and invited magistrates and staff to attend.
Gibbs reported caseload statistics: in July he recorded 10 death investigations (7 natural deaths, 2 accidents, 1 suicide); in August the office handled 16 death investigations (12 natural, 1 accident, 1 suicide) with two autopsy reports still pending as of the meeting.
Judge Executive Jamie Buleyberg thanked the court and staff for making the office possible. Other officials used the occasion to note the county's investments in facilities for elected offices.
