Seventh-grader Wisdom recognized after self-publishing first book

The Plum Borough School District recognized a seventh-grade student, Wisdom, at its Sept. 23 action meeting after the student published a book.
Doctor Adam Zarmack, principal of the middle school, introduced Wisdom and invited him to describe the process behind writing and publishing the book. Wisdom told the board that he began the project during the pandemic and that the manuscript went through several drafts over a number of years. “My dad gave me a suggestion that I should write a book,” Wisdom said. He described losing an earlier draft during a family move and then reworking the story with help from his sister; he said the book was published in August and that a second book is nearly complete, with “23,000 words” so far.
Doctor Zarmack said the district had linked a sample of Wisdom’s book in the meeting agenda and that copies are available in the district library. Board members congratulated Wisdom and noted the book is available on Barnes & Noble and Kindle.
The recognition was part of the meeting’s opening ceremonial items; no policy action or funding related to the publication was discussed.
