North Allegheny forms task force to study artificial intelligence in schools

The North Allegheny School District announced on Sept. 24 the creation of a task force on artificial intelligence to guide how the technology will be used in district schools.
"The creation of a task force on artificial intelligence to guide how this technology will be used in the North Allegheny School District" was presented by Dr. Hyland, who described the group as including "administrators, teachers, counselors, students, parents, and community members." The task force's stated goals are to draft a district vision for AI, establish ethical guidelines, explore opportunities to enhance teaching and learning, and recommend updates to policy, curriculum and professional development.
Dr. Hyland said the group will engage in study, dialogue and collaboration over the next year and aims to present "concrete recommendations by next fall and or early winter for review and potential implementation by the board as we look to 2027." The initiative also aligns with the district's recent selection to join the League of Innovative Schools, a national network the board referenced.
Dr. Hyland said further information would come from Mr. Cox and his team; Mr. Cox was named in the meeting as the district's director of technology and innovation and will be involved in communications and next steps.
