North Logan City Library staff described logistics for a planned November–December move to a renovated facility and outlined temporary service changes to maintain access while construction finishes.
Director Trent Bateman said the library intends to operate from the building's atrium while work continues, with two public computers, printing and a limited selection of new books available on rolling shelves. "We won't be open for general browsing in the temporary space," Bateman said, citing safety and the temporary nature of the setup.
Bateman proposed hours of noon to 6 p.m. during the temporary operation period so patrons can access services after work; he said story time would be scheduled at 11:30 a.m. and is expected to pause for approximately one month during the move. Staff will prepare kits and take-home activities to keep programming active during the transition.
On logistics, Bateman said staff will move books first into the atrium and stack them alphabetically for re-shelving. Public Works will help transport larger shelving units; some shelving will need partial disassembly to fit through doors. Staff member Noah Jensen is preparing floor plans so Public Works can place shelves in the atrium without repeated rearrangement.
Bateman said volunteers may be used for some tasks, but the initial plan is to rely primarily on staff and a limited number of board volunteers to avoid liability and logistical complexity. He acknowledged limited certainty about hours for some page positions and said current page wages are $10 per hour; pages typically work small weekly shifts.
Why it matters: maintaining core services during a move affects checkout rates, access for regular patrons and staffing needs. Bateman said the library will monitor circulation and digital services during the transition and adjust staffing as needed.
No formal vote was taken. Bateman said staff are finalizing furniture quotes and shelving plans and will report back to the board as vendors and Public Works confirm schedules.
Provenance: Director's report and subsequent board discussion covering move timing, temporary hours and program continuity.
