East Lansing asked to comment on Lansing Charter Township draft master plan; deadline Nov. 19

The East Lansing Planning Commission on Sept. 24 was asked to review a draft master plan prepared by Lansing Charter Township and to return any comments by Nov. 19.

Planning staff member Mr. Bartley said the township began updating its plan last August and has distributed a draft to adjacent municipalities as required by the state; East Lansing received an executive summary and a link to the full draft in the commission packet.

"If there are any comments this evening, I'd record them and pass them along," Bartley said, noting the township board authorized distribution for public review and set a Nov. 19 comment deadline and public hearing date.

Commissioners discussed how East Lansing might respond. Bartley recommended comparing East Lansing’s recently adopted comprehensive plan—particularly the future land-use map—against Lansing Township’s draft along shared borders. Commissioners noted particular interest in the State Street expansion near Eastwood and the Eastwood–Lake Lansing corridor and asked staff to include the item for a deeper review at a future meeting, likely the second meeting in October, to allow formal comment before the township’s Nov. 19 deadline.

Bartley identified Spalding DeDecker as the planning firm that prepared the township draft, and he said the township asked for comments "as required by the state" without naming a specific statute.
