Public defender seeks large general‑fund support after state guidance limits supplemental‑fund use

The county public defender’s office told the council it must reconfigure several expense lines after receiving guidance from the state Public Defender Commission that limited permissible uses for the supplemental (local) public defender fund. The office requested moving several expense categories to the general fund and outlined large expected outlays for outside counsel, appeals and transcripts.
