The Jasper City Council on Thursday adopted a resolution formally canvassing the city's 2025 election results and then presented certificates of election to the successful candidates.
City Clerk Cathy Chambliss presented the canvass for the council's consideration; the council moved and approved the resolution by voice vote. Mayor Cowan invited the winners to the dais to receive certificates after the resolution passed.
Chambliss summarized procedural details during the canvass and noted provisional ballots for several contests. During public exchange earlier in the meeting, Chambliss and other staff discussed how provisional ballots were processed: "In the District 3 provisional box, this is 3, right? There were 3 ballads cast. The board of registrars has indicated that we can only count 1 of those ballads," a staff member said on the record.
Council members confirmed the motion and approved the canvass by voice vote; the clerk and mayor then presented certificates of election to those who had won their contests.
The council did not change the earlier reporting of results; procedural questions about provisional ballots and ties were handled by the registrar staff before and during the canvass. The council recorded approval by unanimous voice vote with those present responding "yes."
