A committee member said she, Chair Lacey and member Alan met to review the feasibility-study proposal that the town council is considering. The district will prepare a brief report with enrollment numbers, enrollment projections and building capacity figures to present at the committee's October meeting to inform any request for funding the feasibility study.
Committee members said a recent town-council discussion raised concerns. Councilman Anderson questioned the consulting firm's history and noted the firm had often recommended new construction in other engagements, which could be politically and financially difficult in Burrillville where existing buildings have been well maintained. School committee members said the town council asked for more information before committing funds; the committee agreed further analysis would strengthen a future funding request.
The committee also discussed the importance of understanding how consultant recommendations could affect potential state reimbursement eligibility. The administration will prepare the enrollment and capacity report and return to the committee at its October meeting for further discussion and possible action.
