Summary
Marshall Mead told the council Cherokee Nation marshals made 120 arrests and issued about 200 citations while deployed to Crow Fair and that the marshal service is implementing Tyler Tech tracking and analytics for patrols.
Marshall Mead reported to the Tribal Council on marshal-service operations and recent deployments, highlighting work at Crow Fair and technology upgrades to the marshal service.
Mead said Cherokee Nation marshals led a deployment to Crow Fair that resulted in "a 120 arrests and 200 citations." He described positive feedback from other reservations where Cherokee Nation marshals have worked; in one instance, he said the local chairman asked the Cherokee Nation marshals to return for another event. "Our guys did amazing work up there," Mead said, adding that outside special agents praised the marshals’ performance and nicknamed them "ghosts" for swift, effective patrols.
Mead also briefed the council on technology upgrades. He said the marshal service’s implementation of Tyler Technologies software will allow staff to show patrol histories, distances and spacing of marshal units, heat maps of call volume and other operational analytics. Mead offered to provide handouts and a formal presentation at a later meeting and invited councilors to visit the marshal service to see the system in operation.
Why it matters: The report describes enforcement activity and improved operational technology that could affect public safety, patrol strategies and interagency deployments. The council did not take action on the report; Mead’s remarks were informational.
