County engineer reports progress on culverts, paving and bridge approaches; guardrail needed before one bridge can reopen

Wright County’s engineer provided a briefing on secondary roads projects, telling the Board of Supervisors the department recently replaced a large culvert on Ida Avenue and is monitoring several resurfacing and bridge projects.
The engineer reported crews replaced a failing box culvert on Ida Avenue and completed modified subbase and prep work on other local segments. He said a contractor working on a highway project toward Franklin County was slightly behind schedule; the county hoped to have hot-mix paving operations begin by midweek, weather permitting.
Supervisors asked about the Voss/Gory (spelled in the record as VOS Gory) bridge project. The engineer said bridge approaches were scheduled soon but that the bridge should not be opened until guardrail installation is complete; once guardrail work is scheduled and finished, the county will open the bridge to traffic. The engineer said seed and fertilizing could be done under traffic once guardrail is in place, but opening without guardrail was not recommended.
The engineer also discussed contractor compliance at a site where pours were delayed due to water control issues and said crews and subcontractors were working on measures to control infiltration to enable concrete pours. Supervisors asked the engineer to follow up on guardrail contractor scheduling.
No formal actions were taken in the presentation; supervisors accepted the engineer’s update and thanked staff.
