Trinity County adopts updated California fire and green-building standards into county code

Trinity County’s Board of Supervisors on Sept. 2 voted to amend county code section 15.04.008 to adopt the applicable sections of the California Fire Code and the California Green Building Standards Code (parts of Title 24) that the county had previously omitted.

Cody Smith, the county building official, told the board the amendment brings Trinity County into alignment with state law and the California building-code updates that set minimum environmental and fire-safety standards for new construction. Smith summarized the green-code requirements as addressing energy efficiency, water conservation, construction waste recycling and indoor-air quality for new residential and commercial buildings; he said the fire-code provisions govern materials, setbacks and occupancy standards.

The board moved and approved the ordinance on roll call. No additional local amendments were recorded in the meeting minutes; staff described the item as required by state law and portrayed it as an update to previously missing code sections rather than a change in local policy direction.

Ending: The ordinance aligns Trinity County’s adopted code with required sections of Title 24; staff said the change is necessary to ensure consistent building and fire-safety enforcement.
