KAMAS — The Kamas City Council agreed to move forward with a pre-application for a state Rural Community Opportunity Grant to support rebuilding work at Blizard Lumber Company, a local sawmill that employs about 15 people.
City leaders said the state grant can provide up to $600,000 for eligible business infrastructure projects, with a required 20% match paid by the business. Spencer, a project manager with Mountainland Association of Governments (MAG) assisting the application, told the council he will coordinate the application process and noted the program is competitive.
“This RCOG grant ... empowers rural communities to take responsibility for economic development planning projects and activities to manage unique opportunities,” Spencer said, reading the grant’s purpose. He later added, “I’m basically the project manager for doing the grant application.”
