Clovis Carver Library outlines facility upgrades, GoBond spending and staff changes

The Clovis Carver Library director told the board the library will install a new fire panel this fall, move forward on skylight work and use remaining go bond funds for meeting-room furniture and other patron-facing items, and she outlined recent and imminent staff changes.
Margaret Burrows said the library has contracted IntraWorks of Albuquerque to install a new fire panel that she said had taken about nine months to fund and arrange. “They’re scheduled to start on Monday, September 8, and it’ll take about a month for them to install it,” Burrows said. She told the board the existing panel is only semi-functional and that, if parts fail, the system could be red-tagged.
Burrows said the library will install six new skylights under a contract awarded to WWRC; she estimated the skylight work cost at about $165,000 (reported as "a 185,000, hundred and 65000" in the transcript) and said installation would likely occur in September. She said the contractor will also address clogged drains and ceiling-tile replacements while on site.
On building access, Burrows said staff have obtained quotes to reverse a southeast donation-door swing to improve ramp access; she reported EMCORE and another contractor provided estimates and said the door job was about $7,000.
Burrows described the 2022 go bond balance and allowable uses: she said the library had been awarded $129,000 in 2022, had spent down to about $88,000 remaining, and that go bond funds must be used for patron-facing items and cannot be used for some other capital items. She told the board the remaining go bond money will pay for furniture and a reconfigured meeting room (named the Ruth Warrie Room) with a monitor and movable tables and chairs.
Burrows also described state grants in aid (annual awards based on registered cardholder population) and how those funds and go bond allocations work together for purchases and staff development.
On staffing, Burrows said two reference positions became vacant in mid-July and that Lindsay Fisher, a reference employee, is leaving to teach in a nearby district. She also said Ashley Crowfoot (children’s coordinator) may relocate in September because of military family moves, and that the library will recruit for open positions.
Burrows raised a facility maintenance concern about public restrooms that she said need full replacement; she said this falls more under Carver Estate responsibility than the library’s day-to-day budget and that she plans to raise the need with the Carver State Board.
Board members asked procedural questions about go bond requisitions and state notice-of-obligation steps; Burrows described the internal requisition and state reporting sequence the library uses before ordering materials.
No new budget appropriations or formal board votes were taken at the meeting on these items; the board received the status report and staff identified next procurement steps.
