Ocala code board grants permit extensions, trims long‑standing lien and orders abatements

The Ocala Code Enforcement Board on Aug. 13 approved permit extensions for property owners seeking demolition or repairs, reduced a five‑year lien tied to unpermitted work to the city27s prosecution cost, and accepted staff recommendations to order abatements at multiple addresses.

The board found violations at 616 Northwest 10th Place and granted the property owner an extension to obtain a demolition or repair permit by Oct. 2, 2025; if the owner chooses demolition, staff said the work must be completed within 60 days after permit issuance, or within 90 days if the owner pursues repairs. Officer Stephen Knight presented the case for the city and a resident who identified herself as Tanya Hernandez told the board she expects the contractor to secure the permit within a week or two but asked for additional time. Board member Michael Kreuter moved to find the violations exist and accept staff27s recommendations; Darrell O27Kane seconded the motion, and it passed unanimously.
