The Waller County budget committee reported to the Commissioners Court on Aug. 20 that draft budgets have been circulated to department heads and that the committee will finalize outstanding issues in an afternoon meeting.
Robert (county budget staff) said the initial round of staffing requests included 75 asks; the committee has narrowed those to approximately 39 full-time and seven part-time positions at the draft stage. He emphasized that the drafts are not final, that department heads should review the documents, and that the committee would incorporate departmental input before a public workshop.
The court scheduled a public budget workshop for 8:00 a.m. two weeks from the meeting to receive final input and to refine the proposed budget. The timeline discussed in court calls for the court to approve elected official salaries in the near-term and adopt the budget and tax rate on Sept. 17, consistent with the county’s public-notice obligations.
Budget staff reminded department heads to check email for draft budgets and to provide comments before the two‑week workshop. County officials said they would provide a debt-service schedule and a list of capital items funded by the recently approved tax notes to support planning.
