The Lakeway City Council on Aug. 18 approved a resolution supporting Vander Geest Enterprises’ application to the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF), after trimming location‑specific language from the draft resolution.
Assistant City Manager Pat provided staff context and noted that the council’s action was limited to a statement of support for the grant application, not approval of any land use or development. The applicant’s representatives said their intent was to pursue a commercial, non‑process electronics/assembly facility (metrology/AMHS-type equipment) and that they planned partnerships with local colleges for workforce development.
Councilmember Sherman had asked that the resolution not reference a specific site until PUD and zoning steps were complete. The council agreed to strike the whereas clause mentioning the intersection of Bee Creek Road and SH‑71 and a related land‑use clause; after that edit the council approved the resolution unanimously.
Staff and applicant said any subsequent development on a Lakeway parcel would require the normal PUD amendment and zoning process and be subject to public hearing and review.
Ending — The resolution will be transmitted as amended to support the applicant’s TSIF grant submission; the applicant and staff will continue PUD and site‑specific planning as required.
