Clerk reports progress on codification RFP, election petition and staff certifications

During the Sept. 11 Rules Committee meeting, the municipal clerk reported that an RFP for codification services is in progress, aimed at faster online updates to the Anchorage Municipal Code. The clerk said the goal is to shorten code update times significantly compared with current delays.

The clerk also reported staff certification milestones: Jasmine Akers and Chris Escoffi earned certified municipal designations from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks; Liz in elections earned a certified election and registration administration designation from the National Association of Election Officials; and other staff are progressing through training programs.

On elections, the clerk said the office has received an initiative petition proposing municipal elections be held every other November to coincide with state elections; the petition is with the municipal legal office for review of sponsor qualification and legal sufficiency. The clerk summarized the petition-review process timeline: the clerk’s office reviews sponsor qualifications within 10 days, then the legal department has 30 days to determine legal sufficiency.

The clerk also noted the elections office will send postcards in December to verify undeliverable addresses for initiative petition gathering and said liquor-license renewals will appear on future agendas as renewal season approaches. No formal action occurred during the briefing; items are informational and procedural.
