Council appoints Dr. Christopher Perkins to Economic Development Type A board

The Balch Springs City Council on Aug. 25 voted to appoint Dr. Christopher Perkins to the Economic Development (Type A) board as an alternate member.

Perkins introduced himself to the council, said he moved to Balch Springs in December 2013, and described his professional background in medicine and education. He told the council he taught middle‑school science in Balch Springs before attending UT Southwestern’s PA program and later serving in pediatrics and as a faculty member in UT Southwestern’s PA program. “I just wanna contribute back to the community as much as it contributed to me,” Perkins said.

Councilmember Hill moved to appoint Perkins; the motion was seconded. Councilmembers Hill, Mayor Pro Tem Garcia, Patino, Miles and Salah voted yes. The mayor announced the motion passed.

Why this matters The appointment fills an alternate seat on the city’s Economic Development Type A board after recent resignations. Perkins said he has local ties through previous work and residence in Balch Springs and expressed interest in contributing to local development efforts.
