City staff told the council that during candidate orientation they discovered a few sentences omitted in last March’s major code overhaul concerning vacancies. The update replaces the omitted local text by referring directly to state code so future changes at the state level will automatically apply and the city’s code will not require separate edits.
City staff described the amendment as a clean-up item intended to match state law and avoid duplication. Councilmember Barton moved to approve the item; Councilmember Macomber seconded. The motion passed unanimously on roll call.
The ordinance change is administrative in nature; no fiscal impact or implementation plan beyond the standard code update process was described in the meeting.
