Board extends current emergency operations plan authority while county finalizes update

Mecklenburg County supervisors on Oct. 14 adopted a resolution extending the authority of the county’s existing Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), which was last updated in October 2021, through Dec. 31, 2025, or until a revised plan is formally adopted.
County staff told the board the Commonwealth requires localities to review EOPs every four years. Staff and the regional planning-district commission have drafted an updated plan, but the emergency-services committee has not yet had sufficient time to review and provide comment. The extension provides time for at least two emergency-services committee reviews and for the board to place the revised draft on an agenda for consideration.
The resolution passed by voice vote. Staff said a draft of the new plan would be transmitted to board members later in the week for review.
Why it matters
Extending the current plan’s authority keeps the county in compliance with state expectations while allowing time for committee review and public safety stakeholder input.
What’s next
Staff will circulate the draft revised plan to the board and the emergency-services committee and schedule additional review sessions and adoption hearings before the end of the year.
