Scott County redevelopment panel asks commissioners to transfer county-owned parcel for redevelopment

The Scott County Redevelopment Commission voted unanimously Aug. 6 to ask the Scott County commissioners to transfer a county-owned parcel to the redevelopment commission so the commission can lead development efforts on the site.

A commission member moved that Johnny White present the transfer request to the commissioners for placement on their agenda; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously. Members said the intent is for the redevelopment commission to hold title or control over the property to permit the redevelopment commission to manage marketing, vet developers and drive potential projects.

When asked whether the transfer would include a purchase price, members said no money would change hands. “We’re not. No money,” one member said during the discussion; commissioners will consider transfer mechanics, title and related paperwork at their meeting.

Members said they have been meeting with developers and gathering information about possible uses for the property and that the redevelopment commission has limited funding available to drive projects. Commissioners emphasized that elected officials’ input will be sought and that staff would continue to develop options and share them with the public when appropriate.

The commission amended the agenda earlier in the meeting to allow the transfer discussion and later approved meeting minutes and adjourned.
