Scott County redevelopment panel approves funding agreements to support two school projects

The Scott County Redevelopment Commission voted unanimously Aug. 6 to approve education program agreements with Scott County School District 1 and Scott County School District 2 to provide funding for upcoming and recently completed school projects.
Commission members said the commission previously authorized siding work for Scott County School District 2’s football field and that an invoice for that work is being processed. For District 2 the commission discussed a payment in the neighborhood of $18,180 for the siding work.
Commission members described a larger planned project at Scott County School District 1 focused on upgrades to a girls’ softball field intended to increase capacity and enable the school to host sectional events. District 1 submitted an estimate of about $154,000 for that work, but members said limits tied to the district’s tax-increment-financing (TIF) status constrain the amount the redevelopment commission can provide.
“From what we were told initially by our financial folks that we could not give more than 15% of what we allocate for that TIF district,” a commission member said, and the commission noted that under that guideline the commission’s contribution to District 1 would be around $100,000. Members said they will seek final confirmation of the amount before sending agreements to the school corporations for signature.
The commission approved both agreements and authorized the chair (or designated signer) to sign and forward them to each school corporation for execution.
The commission also approved the meeting minutes and adjourned later in the session.
