A county economic development representative told the committee several private projects are moving through planning while countywide infrastructure and broadband work are critical to support future growth.
Mark, reporting after an absent IDA presenter, said grocery and manufacturing prospects have advanced to planning stages and that the county has substantial preapproved commercial sites. He said the Pepsi plant site is being cleared and the county hopes to inspect the building to assess suitability for a manufacturing prospect. "Once we get in there and look at the building, they need to know what's there so that they can adjust what construction needs to be done," Mark said.
Mark also described a multi-year environmental review for a regional energy project he called FIMFO/Prestige Energy, noting a public hearing was scheduled later in the month and that opposition exists. He said the EIS record on that project is the largest in county history, comparable to previous major projects. "The record is really, really, comprehensive and thick," Mark said.
On countywide infrastructure priorities, Mark urged completion of an infrastructure study to map water and sewer availability and said broadband funding and expansion will accelerate growth in targeted sectors. He also repeated a long-standing request for a third lane on a busy corridor, saying the EIS for the third lane was extended into next year and that county staff will continue to weigh in on alignment and safety matters.
