Trustees approve $21.66M GMP amendment for John Marshall High classroom replacement

The Northside Board of Trustees approved an amendment to the guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for the John Marshall High School classroom and administration replacement project on Aug. 26.
Facilities staff told the board the amendment No. 2 covers the bulk of construction to remove two buildings and build a two-story replacement structure at the front of the campus. The amendment was presented as part of the district—s 2022 bond program work; staff said amendment No. 1 (make-safe and utilities) had been approved earlier and that a third amendment will come later, currently estimated near $6 million.
Why it matters: The approved GMP amendment lets construction proceed with the contractor and architect in place and represents a major spend for the John Marshall campus—s renovation effort.
Trustees approved the amendment in a motion during the facilities portion of the agenda. Staff named Pflueger Architects as architect of record and George General Contracting as the construction manager at risk; the amendment was presented as a "not to exceed" GMP of $21,655,470. No member of the board requested additional information beyond the building-committee review that preceded the action.
Next steps: Staff said amendment No. 3 will be brought to a future board meeting (targeting November) and construction will proceed after procurement steps and closeout of the demolition phase.
