Tamarac commission dissolves Privatization Committee over mixed votes and public objection

The Tamarac City Commission voted 3–2 on Sept. 10 to repeal the city’s Privatization Committee from the municipal code, removing the committee’s dividing section from Chapter 2 of the code.
Supporters of repeal argued the committee duplicated other review processes and that resident advisory functions could be handled through existing boards or direct public engagement. Opponents, including residents who spoke during public comment, urged retention and said the committee provided an independent citizen review prior to privatization decisions.
Commissioner votes were split; Commissioners Bolton and Patterson voted in favor and Mayor Gomez and Commissioner Wright opposed. Vice Mayor Daniel voted in favor, giving the repeal the 3–2 margin needed.
A resident speaker urged the commission to keep the committee to preserve resident input on privatization decisions. Supporters of repeal said the municipality could preserve resident input through other channels and that removing the committee would streamline decision‑making.
The repeal will take effect as part of the code amendments approved that night; the commission and staff said the city will continue to solicit public comment on privatization decisions through public meetings and other advisory structures where appropriate.
