Board reports closed‑session actions: defense authorization and new litigation authority

The Tulare County Board of Supervisors reported two actions taken in closed session at the end of its meeting: authorization to defend named defendants in a pending case and authorization for county counsel to commence litigation in a second matter.
In open-session report-out, county counsel said the board directed counsel to defend and to authorize the defense of individually named defendants (and others to be named later) in the case David Abel Salinas v. City of Visalia et al., Tulare County Superior Court case number VCU323306. Counsel described the case as involving allegations of personal injury and negligence. The board approved that direction on a motion by Supervisor Dennis Townsend, seconded by Supervisor Larry McCarrie; the vote was 4–0 with Supervisor Eddie Valero absent.
Counsel also reported the board authorized legal counsel to initiate litigation in a separate matter; the title and other particulars would be disclosed when appropriate, unless disclosure would jeopardize service or settlement negotiations. That authorization was made on a motion by Supervisor Larry McCarrie, seconded by Supervisor Dennis Townsend, and approved 4–0 with Supervisor Valero absent.
Both items were discussed and decided in closed session; the board provided the summaries required by law upon reconvening in public session.
