Ada County proclaims September 2025 as National Recovery Month

The Ada County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Sept. 20 to proclaim September 2025 as National Recovery Month, calling on residents to observe the month with programs that support recovery from substance use and mental-health disorders.

The proclamation, read to the board by county staff, says the county recognizes the theme “recovery is for everyone, every person, every family, every community” and cites an estimated 68,347 residents—about 13% of Ada County’s population—as affected by mental health or substance use disorders. The board’s action also calls attention to county programs, including a peer program and a specialty-core program, and references an event planned for Sept. 20.

Commissioners discussed local services in their remarks as they moved the proclamation to a vote. One commissioner noted county partnerships with local detox and recovery providers, saying those programs contribute to addressing the county’s needs. There was no dissent; the chair called the question and the motion carried by voice vote.

The proclamation text encourages public awareness and asks citizens to observe the month with community events and outreach. The board did not adopt new funding or program directives as part of the proclamation; it took the action solely to designate the month and to publicize existing local efforts.
