The Cooch County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 26 awarded a combined road-construction contract to Hawkinson Construction, accepting the firm’s low responsible bid of $3,067,810.75 to perform several highway projects.
The work covers state-aid projects and county road sales-tax projects, including mill-and-overlay work on Sturgeon River Road and Van Lin Road (County Road 30 and Cassaw 24), a mill-and-overlay on County Road 97, and a full-depth reclamation on County Road 145. The county engineering office received six bids; the engineer’s estimate was roughly $3.9 million.
Staff said Hawkinson is likely to begin work in June of the next construction season due to the contractor’s schedule. The county will move ahead with budget adjustments and other construction administration steps. Commissioners approved the award by voice vote after a staff recommendation.
Ending: Hawkinson will prepare schedules and staff will return with budget adjustments and construction start dates as the contract is finalized and work is scheduled.
