Trinity County board proclaims August 2025 Child Support Awareness Month

The Trinity County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 2025 adopted a proclamation recognizing August 2025 as Child Support Awareness Month and commended North Coast Regional Child Support for its work serving families in Trinity and Humboldt counties.

The proclamation, read into the record during the board’s regular meeting, cited national and state figures, saying that in fiscal year 2024–25 child support programs nationwide collected $26,670,000,000 and the California program distributed nearly $2,500,000,000. It said local child support staff distributed $9,765,861 directly to families in Humboldt and Trinity counties during that fiscal year.

The county presentation was accepted on behalf of the child support office. A department representative told the board, “For the over the past month within July, we have already collected $700,000 in child support.” The board then voted to adopt the proclamation.

Why it matters: The proclamation signals formal county recognition of child support services and summarises recent collection and distribution amounts cited by the county and the state child support agency.

In the meeting, supervisors recorded unanimous assent for the proclamation. The board’s roll-call in favor included Supervisor Gogan, Supervisor Lewyler, Supervisor Brownfield and Supervisor Carpenter Harris.

The proclamation does not create new policy or funding; it is a formal recognition of the work of the regional child support office and the role of child support in the county’s anti-poverty efforts.

The county staff presenting the proclamation said they would continue outreach and work with families in Trinity and Humboldt counties.
