The Midland City Council approved several land-use and zoning items by single votes or second readings on July 22, items that received limited discussion.
Items approved included: - Second reading approval of a rezoning for Lot 14, Block 22, West End Addition (rezoned from O-1 Office District to LR Local Retail District). (Item 18) - A specific-use designation allowing on-premises sale of all alcoholic beverages in a special-event center at Lot 1, Block 1, Camelot Addition (Item 19 was the related Live Oak request covered in a separate article and required a TLU for outdoor music). - Approval of a specific-use designation for on-premises alcohol sales at 1510 West Texas Avenue, inside an existing office building with a service area of about 200 square feet and hours of 10 a.m.–midnight daily (Item 21). - Rezoning of 301 South Stonewall Street from Commercial to SF-3 Single-Family to allow construction of a new single-family residence (Item 22). - A special-exception (variance) authorizing reduced side- and rear-yard setbacks for an already-constructed accessory building at 4411 Staniland Avenue; staff recommended approval after finding similar setbacks on neighboring properties (Item 23).
Votes were recorded on the agenda; planning staff recommended approval on the items above and the planning commission had recommended approval where required. For the special exception at 4411 Staniland Avenue staff noted the structure had been built and that the request retroactively regularizes the existing accessory building; staff added recommended conditions limiting the exception to the existing building footprint.
