CAB members agree to continue equity work; volunteers form facilitator work group

Members of the Community Action Advisory Board debriefed a year-long equity training series on July 2 and agreed to continue the work by forming a small facilitator work group and scheduling team-building sessions that apply training concepts to board processes.
Rob Perkins (District 3 elected representative and CAB chair) and several members described the training as relationship-building and practice-focused rather than merely academic. "One of the main takeaways for me was how much of this equity training was not at all about buzzwords ... but rather a real attempt to establish relationships," Rob said.
Board discussion and next steps
Members discussed options for continuing training while complying with open-meeting rules. Abby (staff) said trainings and task-group meetings must be posted and minutes taken; she advised that work sessions or workshops can be scheduled and posted to the public meeting calendar and do not require audio recording if they include only public-noticed deliberations and minutes. Several members proposed a small work group of less than a quorum to plan next steps and help facilitate public sessions.
Volunteers and commitments
Volunteers to form the facilitator/work group included Rob Perkins, Diana Perez, Clover Spears and other members who offered facilitation experience. Abby said she would resend the "community commitments" document and the equity-resources Google Drive link and would circulate a Doodle poll to schedule initial planning meetings. The group discussed holding a larger in-person workshop (proposed for January) to focus on applying equity principles to the board’s RFA and reporting processes.
Why it matters
Board members said the goal of follow-up work is to translate the equity training into specific changes in how CAB evaluates grant applications, reviews data and asks questions of providers so decision-making reflects the equity outcomes the group intends.

Abby agreed to send the documents and a scheduling poll; the volunteer facilitators will meet to design a plan to bring back to the full CAB.
