Council asks staff for report on recent CEQA and building-code changes and to explore energy reach-code options

A council member noted that language from Assembly Bill 306 that would have frozen certain residential building-code changes was moved into the budget trailer SB 130, which passed the previous day. The council member said those changes could make housing production more complicated despite the legislation's intent to speed development, and asked the director of community development or the building official to report back.
"I would like to hear, from staff in at our next meeting, our building official perhaps, or whoever from CDD to talk about, what the implications are," the council member said. The council also asked for a placeholder on the next meeting's new-business agenda titled "energy reach code options" so the council can consider whether to pursue local energy standards before state changes take effect.
